Williams Sisters Reunite for Wimbledon Doubles Comeback
Williams Sisters to Play Doubles at Wimbledon

Serena and Venus Williams are reuniting their doubles partnership at Wimbledon this year. The All England Club announced on Tuesday that the legendary sisters have been awarded a wild card invitation for the women's doubles draw, which begins in less than two weeks.

Serena's Return to Competition

The news comes after 44-year-old Serena recently made her return to professional tennis following nearly four years away from the sport. She has been gradually easing back into competition, playing singles and doubles events in recent weeks.

There remains one wild card spot available in the singles tournament, but it has not yet been confirmed whether Serena will also receive that slot. Venus, who turns 46 on Wednesday, has continued to compete sporadically over the past few years.

A Storied Doubles Legacy

The Williams sisters have won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles together, including six at Wimbledon. Their first Wimbledon doubles title came in 2000, and their most recent was in 2016. They last played doubles together at the 2022 US Open, where they lost in the first round after more than four years without playing as a team.

Recent Matches and Setbacks

Serena's last singles match at Wimbledon was in 2022, when she also needed a wild card and lost in the first round to Harmony Tan. Last week at Queen's Club in London, she won her first doubles match with partner Victoria Mboko but had to withdraw after Mboko injured her knee during a singles match.

On Tuesday, Serena and Karolina Muchova lost 6-4, 6-2 to Giuliana Olmos of Mexico and New Zealand's Erin Routliffe at the Berlin Open. In Nottingham, Australian Kim Birrell lost to fifth seed Ann Li 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.
