West Coast Eagles' Bo Allan Credits Coaches' Backing for Strong AFL Season

West Coast Eagles emerging talent Bo Allan has pointed to the steadfast support from the club's coaching staff as the primary catalyst behind his remarkable second season in the Australian Football League. After being selected by the Eagles with pick number 16 in the 2024 national draft, Allan faced a debut year marred by illness and injuries, limiting him to just six senior appearances.

However, the product of Peel Thunder has launched into the 2026 campaign with vigor, featuring in all four of his team's matches so far. He has showcased his exceptional speed and versatility, operating effectively across the wing, half-back positions, and even stepping into inside midfield roles.

Coaching Influence and Personal Growth

Allan emphasized that his regular discussions with the coaching group have consistently focused on encouraging him to utilize his running and ball-carrying abilities. "They back me in, so to be able to show that a few times in the last couple of weeks has been really good," he stated in an interview with SN.

He noted that his confidence has been building steadily week by week. "It was probably hard early on, last year was a different sort of year for me, but to start this year personally being able to be out there with the boys and being able to get some confidence and some trust, it's really good," Allan explained.

In addition to another pre-season, Allan highlighted the positive team environment as a key factor. "Another pre-season helps as well, and the team camaraderie that we have as well helps. Everyone gets along really well and it brings up individuals as well to be confident in their own ability."

Mental and Physical Development

Beyond his physical progress, Allan revealed he has invested significant effort into the mental aspects of his game since joining the Eagles. "I've been doing a lot of mindset work with our psychologist here to be able to grow in confidence," he shared.

Reflecting on his interrupted first year, he added, "Last year was interrupted, and for me, being able to talk to someone and getting a bit more self-belief and confidence, that's helped me and I'm going to continue to do it."

Looking Ahead to Future Challenges

Allan acknowledged that the team's recent 128-point defeat to Sydney served as a reality check, but he expressed optimism about their ability to rebound quickly. The Eagles are set to face Geelong in their upcoming Gather Round clash.

"We know Geelong's had a loss, but they're a mature side, they're a great side, they've played a lot of finals footy," he said. "It's definitely going to be a battle, for sure, but we'll review their game as well and work on ways how we can bring our strengths and beat them on the weekend."
