West Coast Eagles Extend Jamie Cripps for 2026 AFL Season
Eagles lock in premiership forward Jamie Cripps

The West Coast Eagles have secured the future of premiership hero Jamie Cripps, locking in the experienced forward for the 2026 AFL season with a one-year contract extension.

The deal, finalised on Thursday afternoon, ensures the club veteran will embark on his 16th season at the elite level, providing crucial on-field leadership and guidance for the team's emerging talent.

Contract Finalised After Extended Negotiations

While Tom Cole re-signed in September, Cripps' contract negotiations took longer than initially anticipated. The club's head of list management and recruiting, Matt Clarke, expressed his delight at finally securing the signature of the 250-game player.

"We are really pleased that 'Crippa' has signed on for 2026," Clarke stated. "Jamie has been a great servant of the West Coast Eagles and while his talent is highly valued, the role that he will continue to play developing our next brigade cannot be understated."

Vital Experience in a Transitioning Squad

Following the retirements of Dom Sheed and Jeremy McGovern, coupled with Liam Ryan's move to St Kilda, Cripps now stands as one of just four remaining Eagles from their celebrated 2018 premiership triumph.

His value has been further magnified by the season-ending injury to captain Oscar Allen, thrusting Cripps into an even more prominent role within the forward structure.

Demonstrating he still possesses significant scoring power, Cripps finished as the Eagles' leading goal-kicker for the season with 24 majors, proving his ongoing contribution extends far beyond mere mentorship.

Leadership and Legacy at Optus Stadium

Clarke emphasised the intangible qualities Cripps brings to the locker room, noting his strong connection with coach Andrew McQualter. "He is still playing and training at a high level and we love what he brings to the locker room," Clarke added.

This contract extension solidifies Cripps' legacy at the West Coast Eagles, ensuring his wealth of experience and proven goal-kicking ability will remain a cornerstone of the team's attack as they navigate a significant period of regeneration and development.
