West Coast Eagles Veteran Elliot Yeo Sidelined with Groin Injury
West Coast Eagles midfielder Elliot Yeo is facing another extended period on the sidelines after sustaining a groin injury during Sunday's AFL clash against Port Adelaide. The 32-year-old was a standout performer in the first half, delivering four powerful tackles and kicking a goal, but he did not return after halftime.
Yeo was seen looking dejected on the bench, with the club later confirming the groin issue. Fox Footy commentator Kelli Underwood expressed sympathy, stating, "Your heart breaks for Elliot Yeo." Former Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley offered hope, saying, "You'd love him to get a run at it for a good period of time. Let's hope for his sake it's just precautionary and they are looking after him."
History of Injuries Plagues Yeo's Career
This latest setback continues a challenging run for Yeo, who has a documented history of groin problems. Over the past six seasons, he has managed only 59 games due to various injuries, including missing the entire 2025 campaign with an ankle issue. Despite this, he made a strong comeback this season, featuring in the club's opening two matches and performing well in losses to Gold Coast and a win over North Melbourne, even while on managed minutes.
Yeo is under contract with West Coast until the end of 2027, adding pressure for his recovery. Meanwhile, Port Adelaide also dealt with injury woes, as key defender Esava Ratugolea left the game early with a knee injury. Ratugolea limped off in the third quarter, briefly returned, then exited again with ice applied to his right knee.
The injuries to both players highlight the physical demands of AFL and raise concerns for their teams' upcoming fixtures. More updates are expected as medical assessments progress.
