Port Adelaide forward Mitch Georgiades has demonstrated unwavering loyalty to the club throughout his career, according to his manager, Tom Seccull. This statement comes as a war of words over Georgiades' future intensifies between Power coach Josh Carr and former assistant Chad Cornes.
Manager Reaffirms Commitment Amid Speculation
Seccull emphasized that Georgiades, a West Australian product drafted by Port Adelaide in 2019, has shown nothing but commitment to the club. In an interview with SEN on Friday, Seccull revealed he is in constant dialogue with the Power regarding his client's status.
"From his perspective, he's shown nothing but commitment to the Port Adelaide Football Club his whole career, and that's where it lies at the moment," Seccull said. "Obviously, he'll have some decisions to make over the course of the next 18 months, but where that sits at the moment, he's committed to Port Adelaide, he's contracted."
Background on the Controversy
The debate began last week when Chad Cornes, who has transitioned to media after leaving his coaching role at the end of the previous season, commented on Georgiades' future. Cornes stated he would be very surprised if the power forward did not request a trade back to Perth when his contract expires in 2027.
Georgiades, 24, has been a key player for Port Adelaide, kicking 177 goals in 96 career games, including 58 last season and 10 so far in 2025. His performance has attracted long-standing interest from West Coast, fueling speculation about a potential move.
Coaching Dispute Escalates
Cornes' remarks drew a sharp response from Josh Carr, who accused his 2004 premiership teammate of playing a guessing game with his commentary. Carr suggested Cornes had no real insight into Georgiades' intentions.
In retaliation, Cornes defended his position, asserting that he had regular conversations with Georgiades during his three-year coaching tenure. "To say I wasn't always having conversations with Mitchell about all parts of his life is wrong," Cornes said. "All I'll say to that is I coached Mitch for three years and I spoke to him daily."
Georgiades' Enthusiasm for Port Adelaide's Future
Despite the external noise, Seccull highlighted Georgiades' positive outlook on the club's direction under Carr's leadership. "Mitch is really excited about what Josh is doing at the helm as well and the potentially changing of the guard there, so hopefully they can get a good run-on and Mitch's form can continue," he said.
Seccull added that Georgiades feels deeply connected to the team and has embraced a leadership role. "He's a part of their future and Mitch feels connected to the group and a leader at that football club now, so that's really exciting."
As the situation unfolds, Georgiades remains focused on his performance with Port Adelaide, with his manager's comments reinforcing his current dedication amid ongoing discussions about his long-term plans in the AFL.
