Perth Glory defender Tijan McKenna has her sights firmly set on representing the Matildas after being named the club's Most Glorious Player for the A-League Women season.
The 20-year-old centre-back was a standout performer for Glory throughout the campaign, earning the prestigious award at the club's end-of-season function. McKenna's consistent displays at the heart of defence have not gone unnoticed, and she is now determined to take the next step in her career by breaking into the national team setup.
"It's a huge honour to win this award, but I know there's still plenty of work to do," McKenna said. "My goal is to one day pull on the green and gold and represent Australia at the highest level. I'll keep working hard and hopefully get that opportunity."
McKenna's rise has been impressive. She joined Perth Glory's academy as a teenager and quickly progressed through the ranks, making her senior debut in the 2021-22 season. Since then, she has become a key figure in the squad, earning praise from coaches and teammates alike for her composure and leadership on the pitch.
Glory coach Stephen Peters hailed McKenna's achievement, saying she is a "deserving winner" who has shown tremendous growth. "Tijan has been outstanding for us this season. She's mature beyond her years and has a bright future ahead. I have no doubt she has what it takes to play for the Matildas," Peters said.
The Most Glorious Player award is voted on by the club's players and coaching staff, recognising the individual who has made the most significant contribution throughout the season. McKenna's victory underscores her importance to the team as Glory look to build for the future.

"I'm just focused on improving every day and helping Perth Glory succeed. If that leads to a Matildas call-up, that would be a dream come true," she added.
