Scope Systems Cyber Attack: No Data Stolen, CEO Says

Scope Systems, a West Leederville-based software provider for mining companies, has confirmed that a recent cyber attack on its servers did not result in any customer data being stolen. The company, which specializes in providing software solutions for the mining industry, experienced a breach in its cloud computing infrastructure last week. Hackers managed to penetrate some of the defenses of Scope's systems, leading to concerns that sensitive data might have been held for ransom.

CEO Assures Customers of Data Safety

In a statement released to customers on Saturday, Scope's chief executive Mark Bogos provided an update on the situation. He emphasized that no data was stolen during the attack. "We are pleased to confirm that your backups are intact, and data loss has not occurred. Further, we are not aware of any client systems being targeted for data exfiltration," Bogos said. The restoration process is currently underway and will continue over the weekend and into the coming week. Bogos added, "Backups are being restored methodically to ensure a safe return of services."

Impact on Pronto Xi Software

The attack reportedly blocked access to Pronto Xi, a software system provided by Scope Systems that automates payroll and invoice management for mining companies. Major customers of Scope include Perenti, Evolution Mining, IGO, and 29Metals. Despite the disruption, these companies have confirmed that their operations remain unaffected. A spokesman for gold major Evolution stated on Friday, "We're aware of the incident and have not been directly impacted." Similarly, a spokesman for mining services provider Perenti said, "We are aware that Scope Systems has had a cyber incident. Our operations are continuing as normal."
