Brisbane Lions Warn Fans of Fake AI Stories on Facebook
Brisbane Lions Warn Fans of Fake AI Stories on Facebook

The Brisbane Lions have issued a warning to fans about fake stories circulating on Facebook, generated by artificial intelligence and posted by a page called Lions Fanclub. The club described the content as harmful and dangerous misinformation.

The fabricated stories targeted players, including star midfielder Lachie Neale, whose marriage breakdown was falsely linked to a cheating scandal. Another story involved false family news about co-captain Harris Andrews.

One fake post used the case of missing five-year-old Sharon Granites as a clickbait hook, claiming Neale had reached out to the family and changed their lives. Other stories falsely suggested Neale made a bitter admission and that coach Chris Fagan removed a player from the roster.

The club urged fans to stay vigilant and verify information by contacting the club directly. The Ultimate Brisbane Lions Fan Page distanced itself from the fake content, stating its page is real.

Another Facebook page, Green Living Tips, also shared the same false stories about Neale. The Lions, currently fifth on the ladder, are preparing to face Essendon at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.
