Ms Chan explained the special nature of the Year of the Fire Horse, noting its association with speed, stamina, vitality, and perseverance. "In Chinese culture, the horse is very special because it is linked to fortune, as in ancient times, horses were the main form of transport and used in war, requiring power," she said. "It represents success, freedom, and adventure, making those born this year energetic, driven, independent, and hardworking."
Milestones for the Cairns Chinese Community
This year's celebrations hold extra significance as Cairns marks its 150th anniversary, coinciding with CADCAI's 40th year since incorporation. Ms Chan shared exciting news: "We turned the sod on what will be our new Chinese cultural centre, set to open next Lunar New Year." These milestones underscore the deep-rooted history and growing presence of the Chinese community in the region.
