A late-night craving for fish tacos escalated into a bizarre drive-thru confrontation on Saturday night, with a man allegedly ramming another car repeatedly at a Guzman y Gomez outlet on the Gold Coast.
Chaos at Robina restaurant
The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. at the Robina restaurant, where witnesses reported that the driver “reached boiling point” after waiting 15 minutes for his order. What followed was a chaotic Mexican stand-off that left two cars destroyed.
“There was lots of engine revving — like really, really loud,” one witness said. Saavanah and Quinn, who were a few cars ahead in the queue, described the scene: “He’s like ramming the car, trying to get out, then you see teenagers at the back of the line yelling ‘he’s got a screwdriver’.”
Panic spreads
Another customer, Ben Zoffman, said panic quickly spread. “All the cars were reversing out of the drive-thru — probably nine or 10 cars.” Police confirmed the man threatened people before abandoning his vehicle and fleeing the scene, leaving behind a damage bill estimated in the tens of thousands of dollars.
Staff returned to business as usual on Sunday, but it is unlikely the angry customer will be welcomed back. “Who’s getting fish tacos at 10 p.m.? That kinda shows what guy we’re working with here,” one witness remarked.
Saavanah and Quinn agreed: “There’s a list of things I would do prior to destroying my car… maybe like wait patiently.” Police are now searching for the driver, who left without collecting his tacos.
