A woman has tragically died several days after being struck by a vehicle at a construction site in Sydney’s southwestern suburbs. Emergency services were first alerted to the incident at a worksite located on Railside Avenue in Bargo shortly before 4:40 PM on Thursday afternoon.
Critical Injuries and Hospitalisation
Paramedics attended the scene and provided urgent medical treatment to a 28-year-old woman who had sustained critical injuries. Following initial stabilisation, she was airlifted to a hospital for further emergency care. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, police were notified that the woman had succumbed to her injuries around 3:30 PM on Sunday.
Driver's Condition and Investigation
The driver of the vehicle, a 55-year-old man, was uninjured in the incident. However, he was taken to hospital for mandatory testing on the day of the crash as part of standard procedure. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident was launched shortly after the collision.
WorkSafe NSW has also initiated a separate investigation, independent of the police inquiry, to examine workplace safety aspects of the incident. The authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the accident and whether any safety protocols were breached.
The local community has been left shocked by the tragedy, with many expressing their condolences to the victim's family. Further updates are expected as both investigations progress.
