Emergency services were called to a house fire in Newcastle's Bar Beach on Monday evening, with crews battling a blaze that broke out in the roof of a home.
Firefighters responded just before 7:30pm on May 11 to reports of a fire at a property on Tooke Street. A spokesperson for NSW Fire and Rescue said they believed an air-conditioning unit had short-circuited, potentially triggering the fire, which then spread into the roof space.
Six firefighting vehicles and a duty commander were on scene. NSW Ambulance and NSW Police also attended. A paramedic crew was present but no injuries were reported, and one person self-evacuated.
Tooke Street was closed between Brook Street and Light Street as of 8:15pm, and firefighters were still fighting the blaze at 8:30pm.
The incident caused smoke to blanket the street, but no further details have been released.
