A man in his 60s remains in a critical condition after his vehicle collided with a pole near MacCabe Park in central Wollongong on Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency services rushed to the intersection of Stewart Street and Church Street at approximately 2:30pm following reports of the single-vehicle crash.
The scene attracted a significant emergency response, with six ambulances, multiple fire trucks, and police units dispatched to the area. The Toll Rescue Helicopter was also deployed, landing at the southern end of MacCabe Park to assist with the operation.
Paramedics provided immediate treatment to the man at the scene, using a large green tarp to ensure privacy during medical care.
As of 3:40pm, traffic on both Stewart Street and Church Street was being diverted away from the crash site, causing some disruption in the area.
The injured man was subsequently transported to Wollongong Hospital via road ambulance in a critical condition.
Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances of the crash, and investigations are ongoing.
