Perth Man Wins $1.8M Lotto Jackpot, Second Win in 11 Years
Perth Man Wins $1.8M Lotto Jackpot for Second Time in 11 Years

A Perth man in his sixties has struck gold for the second time in 11 years, winning $1.8 million in the Saturday Lotto Superdraw. The winner, who purchased his ticket at Palmyra Supa News south of the river, is the first of three Division One winners from the draw to come forward.

Previous Win in 2015

In 2015, the man shared a $3 million prize as part of a syndicate that won a $30 million Lotto draw. He used those winnings modestly, taking a holiday, clearing debt, and helping his children.

Discovering the Win

The man discovered his latest win on Saturday night after checking his numbers on the Lotterywest website. On Monday, he visited the newsagency where he bought the ticket. “I went to the newsagency where I buy my tickets and the newsagent said to me, ‘What are you doing here on a Monday? Did you know we had a winner?’ and I said, ‘I do actually, I think it’s me,’” he explained.

Plans for the Winnings

This time, the winner plans to transition into retirement sooner than expected. “When I won 11 years ago, we took a holiday, cleared some debt and helped out the kids. This time, I’ll be able to transition into retirement sooner than I had planned,” he said. “After this win, enough is enough! I’m going to enjoy my retirement with my wife.”

Rarity of Winning Twice

The odds of winning a lotto prize twice are estimated at 24 trillion to one. Reflecting on his second win, the man acknowledged how rare it was. “I didn’t play for a while after the first win, but I like to play when there are big jackpots or Superdraw weekends, and I also play weekly in a syndicate with my friends,” he said.

Surprising His Wife

The winning could come as a surprise to his wife, who hasn’t yet been told. “I haven’t even told my wife yet — last time she didn’t believe me, so I thought I’d come and collect the presentation cheque and show her that,” he said.

Lucky Numbers

For his latest win, he played his favourite numbers, made up of his parents’ full birthdays and combinations drawn from his immediate family’s birthdays. He has been playing variations of these numbers for about eight years. The winning numbers were 22, 14, 6, 21, 9, 3 with supplementary numbers 38 and 20.
