South Perth Home Security Rebate Program Gains Momentum
The City of South Perth's home security rebate initiative is witnessing a significant increase in community participation, with hundreds of residents leveraging financial assistance to enhance their household safety. Launched in September 2022, this program has steadily grown in popularity, reflecting a heightened awareness and commitment to residential security across the area.
Program Details and Eligibility Criteria
This rebate scheme supports the installation of various safety enhancements, including CCTV systems, wireless security cameras, video doorbells, security screens and doors, sensor lighting, and improved locks. Importantly, only new safety and security equipment qualifies for the rebate, with exclusions such as fire extinguishers, fire alarms, fencing, and ongoing subscription services.
Funding and Application Trends
Since its inception, the program has disbursed 539 rebates, with annual applications rising consistently: from 79 in 2022-23 to 121 in 2023-24 and 212 in 2024-25. For the current financial year, 2025-26, over 120 rebates have already been approved, indicating sustained interest. Funding allocations have also expanded, increasing from $20,000 initially to $45,000 in 2024-25, with $40,000 set aside for the present period.
Rebate Amounts and Complementary Schemes
Eligible residents can access rebates based on their status: concession card holders aged 18 and above are eligible for up to $300, while non-concession card holders can receive up to $250. This initiative aligns with a similar Western Australian Government program, which offers a one-off payment of up to $400 for WA Seniors Card holders, further bolstering home security efforts in the region.
The City of South Perth encourages all residents to consider applying for these rebates to improve their home safety, with the program demonstrating a clear and growing impact on community well-being.
