A single mother of five from Ballajura in Perth's northern suburbs is set to purchase her dream home after winning a $300,000 jackpot from a scratchie ticket. The woman, in her 50s, who spent much of her life in government housing, said the win would allow her to create space for her growing family.
Life-Changing Win for Hardworking Mum
The mother, who also has four grandchildren, described the win as life-changing. “I’ve always wanted to move to a semi-rural property, so I’ll use my prize for a deposit and to clear my HECS debt,” she said. “I spent 16 years in Homeswest housing, raising my kids and educating myself. Now I run a not-for-profit that I established because I know how important the right help is when you need it.”
She purchased the winning scratchie from Ballajura News during her usual midweek routine. “I like to buy scratchies on a Wednesday and play them when I have a coffee break,” she explained. “I bought my usual scratchie and was down to the last letter when I thought, ‘OMG, I think I’ve won $15,000’, then I checked again and realised I’d won $300,000.”
