Major drug and cash haul seized in Cessnock police raid

Police in the Hunter region have made a significant arrest and seized a large cache of illicit items, including a substantial sum of cash and a variety of drugs, following a targeted operation in Cessnock.

Dawn Raid on Comfort Avenue

Officers from the Raptor Squad executed a firearms prohibition order search at a residence on Comfort Avenue in Cessnock shortly after 6:30am on Tuesday, December 30. The operation led to the establishment of a crime scene and the execution of a further search warrant.

Substantial Haul Allegedly Uncovered

During the comprehensive search, police allege they discovered and confiscated a trove of illegal items. The seized property reportedly includes $20,000 in cash and a significant quantity of drugs: approximately 650 grams of methylamphetamine, 50 grams of heroin, and one litre of GHB.

In addition to the narcotics and money, law enforcement also allegedly found two stun guns, multiple mobile phones, and a vehicle believed to have been stolen.

Man Charged with Seven Offences

A 32-year-old man, Ned Carberry, was arrested at the scene and taken to Cessnock Police Station for questioning. He has since been formally charged with seven separate offences.

The charges laid against him are:

  • Supply prohibited drug more than indictable and less than commercial quantity
  • Supply prohibited drug more than small less than or equal to indictable quantity
  • Possess prohibited drug
  • Deal with property proceeds of crime
  • Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit (two counts)
  • Breach of bail

Carberry was refused bail and is scheduled to reappear in court in January. The arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of specialist police units in targeting prohibited weapons and drug supply networks within regional communities.
