Shots Fired After Police Chase in Sydney's West
A dramatic police pursuit in Sydney's western suburbs concluded with shots being fired into the air, and authorities are still searching for the armed suspect. The incident began around 9:20 PM on Friday night in South Wentworthville when the driver of a Nissan ute failed to pull over for a traffic offence, prompting a police chase.
Officers followed the vehicle through several residential streets in Merrylands and Guildford. The pursuit took a dangerous turn in Hawksview Street, Guilford, where the ute was involved in a minor collision with another vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the crash.
The vehicle continued onto Guildford Road before stopping near the intersection with Robertson Road. The driver then fled on foot and fired three to four shots into the air. Police from the Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS), Dog Squad, and PolAir conducted an extensive search but were unable to locate the suspect.
The driver is described as a male and was last seen wearing a bright orange shirt. NSW Police have established a crime scene and are continuing their investigations. Anyone with information is urged to come forward and assist authorities.
This incident has raised concerns about public safety in the area, and police are urging residents to remain vigilant. The search for the gunman is ongoing.
