Lindsey Santoro is set to make her Edinburgh Fringe debut this August with a show that promises to blend sharp stand-up with heartfelt storytelling. In a recent interview, the comedian opened up about her creative process, the themes of her performance, and what audiences can expect from her first full-length Fringe production.
From Open Mics to the Fringe
Santoro, who has been performing stand-up for five years, says the show is a culmination of her experiences on the comedy circuit. "It's about navigating the absurdities of everyday life, from dating apps to workplace politics," she explains. "I want people to laugh, but also to feel seen." The comedian has built a reputation for her relatable yet biting observations, often drawing from her own life as a millennial woman in London.
A Show About Connection
The hour-long show, titled "Fine, Thanks," explores the gap between how we present ourselves online and how we really feel. Santoro says the idea came from a viral tweet she posted about the pressure to appear happy. "I realised how much we all perform happiness, especially on social media," she says. "The show is about dropping that act and finding genuine connection."
Challenges and Triumphs
Santoro admits that preparing for the Fringe has been daunting. "It's a huge financial and emotional investment," she says. "But the support from other comedians has been incredible." She also notes that the Fringe's competitive environment pushes her to refine her material. "Every night, you're testing jokes in front of a new audience. It's terrifying but exhilarating."
What's Next
After the Fringe, Santoro plans to take the show on a regional tour and potentially record a special. She also hopes to write a book based on her experiences. "I want to keep evolving as a performer," she says. "But for now, I'm focused on making this show the best it can be."
