Around 50 firefighters and a dozen fire engines responded to a major fire that destroyed a State Emergency Service (SES) facility in Wyong on Tuesday afternoon.
Fire Breaks Out at Wyong SES Depot
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews were called to the Wyong depot on Levitt Street just after 11:15am and were met by a massive plume of black smoke. The first firefighters on scene quickly established a defensive perimeter to prevent the flames from spreading to neighbouring properties and vehicles.
Two nearby buildings, including the Wyong Scout Hall, were successfully saved from the fire.
Crews Battle Blaze for Hours
Firefighters fought the fire from multiple sides for more than three hours before bringing it under control. They were assisted by NSW Police, ambulance crews, and energy technicians who attended the scene.
FRNSW utilised a ladder platform and a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS), or drone, equipped with thermal imaging technology to monitor the fire from above.
No Injuries Reported
No injuries were reported in the incident, although FRNSW issued an emergency alert at the height of the blaze, warning local residents about the smoke plume.
Investigation Underway
FRNSW investigators and liquid ignition detection dog, Xenos, have arrived at the scene to determine the cause of the fire. At this stage, the fire is not considered suspicious.
