Perth Train Services Resume After Bayswater Station Disruption

Train services across several key Perth lines have resumed operation, although passengers are being warned to expect potential delays following a partial derailment of a passenger carriage on Monday afternoon. The incident, which occurred near Bayswater station, caused significant cancellations and disruptions across the network, with flow-on effects expected to linger into Tuesday.

Chaos During Monday's Commute

The disruption began around 3:30 pm on Monday, November 17, 2025, when a train carriage experienced what the Public Transport Authority described as a 'partial derailment'. A PTA spokeswoman clarified that two bogies (the wheel undercarriage) from a railcar had partially come off the tracks while the train was departing Bayswater station at a low speed.

The train came to a stop, leading to the safe evacuation of all passengers on board. The derailed carriage became stuck between two rail tracks on the Airport line, causing immediate and widespread cancellations. The Airport, Ellenbrook, and Midland lines were all cancelled on sections between Perth and Redcliffe, Perth and Morley, and Perth and Bassendean.

The incident also created delays on the Fremantle line, and authorities had initially anticipated the disruption would impact running schedules throughout Monday evening.

Services Return with Minor Delays

In an update issued just after 5:00 am on Tuesday, November 18, the Public Transport Authority announced that all affected lines were running again. In a statement posted to social media platform X, the PTA confirmed, “Airport, Ellenbrook, Midland and Fremantle Lines Services resume.”

However, the authority cautioned commuters that minor delays were likely as services worked to return to the normal timetable. Further complicating the Tuesday morning commute, a separate “technical issue” was reported, causing additional delays to trains on the Ellenbrook and Mandurah lines.

During the peak of the disruption on Monday, replacement buses were organised to transport passengers on the affected train lines, providing a critical alternative for stranded commuters.
