A serious crash involving a car and a motorcycle has occurred on a busy road in Belmont, Geelong, leaving the motorcyclist with critical injuries. Emergency services rushed to the scene on High Street near the intersection with Roslyn Road around 5:30 pm on Tuesday.
Incident Details
According to police, the collision involved a silver sedan and a motorcycle traveling in opposite directions. The exact circumstances leading to the crash are under investigation, but initial reports suggest the motorcycle may have been attempting to turn when it was struck by the car.
The motorcyclist, a man in his 40s from the local area, was thrown from his bike and suffered serious head and leg injuries. He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being transported to the University Hospital Geelong in a critical condition.
Emergency Response
Several ambulance crews, including a mobile intensive care ambulance, attended the scene. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was also placed on standby but was not required due to the proximity of the hospital.
The driver of the car, a woman in her 50s, was not physically injured but was taken to hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing. She is assisting police with their inquiries.
Traffic Disruptions
The crash caused significant traffic delays in the area during peak hour, with High Street closed between Roslyn Road and Mount Pleasant Road for several hours. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes. The road has since reopened.
