Two police officers who swam into Perth's Swan River early Thursday to rescue a woman clinging to a channel marker will be recommended for a bravery award, WA Police have confirmed.
A passer-by alerted emergency services to the woman, in her 30s, who was holding onto a red buoy near the Narrows Bridge, about 200 metres offshore, just before sunrise.
The officers swam out to the woman before the Water Police arrived. She was taken to Elizabeth Quay and treated by paramedics.
Police Superintendent Amber Harvey praised the officers' quick thinking and courage, stating they placed their own safety at risk to assist a person in distress.
The two officers are being monitored for symptoms of hypothermia. All three individuals were taken to hospital as a precaution.
Harvey said the officers' names will be put forward for a Royal Life Saving award.
