KIC and New Balance Launch 'Run for Joy' Challenge to Rediscover Running

As summer fades and humidity eases across Australia, it's the perfect moment to lace up your sneakers and hit the pavement for a run. For those seeking motivation, the highly-rated fitness app KIC, founded by Steph Claire Smith and Laura Henshaw, has teamed up with global athletics leader New Balance to introduce an exciting new initiative.

An Eight-Week Journey to Joyful Running

The 'Run for Joy' challenge encourages Australians to lose track of time and rediscover the pure pleasure of running. This eight-week program officially commences on March 9, with enrolments now open for participants of all running levels. Whether you aim to disconnect from digital devices or simply step away from your desk, KICRun provides comprehensive support every step of the way.

Forget about pace and distance – this challenge emphasizes embracing momentum and freedom instead. The program includes guided audios, breathwork practices, mobility and strength movements, and even recommendations for the best running sneakers, all accessible within the app.

Escaping Pressure and Building Sustainable Habits

KIC co-founder Steph Claire Smith highlights the common pressures in the running community. "There's so much pressure online to chase half or full marathons, often without the proper training, which can lead to injury or burnout," she explains. "Our Run for Joy Challenge with New Balance is about stepping away from that pressure. It's an opportunity to reconnect with running for the pure joy of it – at your own pace, with a focus on building a sustainable and fulfilling running ritual."

This marks the first-ever KIC Run challenge that integrates running, mobility, and breathwork into a holistic and realistic approach. The flexible program allows participants to choose between one to three runs per week initially, with guidance on how to gradually build and evolve their routine.

Perfect Timing for Autumn Adventures

With many Australians grappling with the demands of daily life and the difficulty of switching off, carving out time for movement has never been more crucial. Running offers a straightforward way to reset and clear the mind, known for its positive effects on overall wellbeing and mental state.

Smith shares her personal evolution with running: "My relationship with running has evolved with every stage of life – from building my fitness to keeping up with my kids – but what's remained constant is what it does for my mind. Right now, I'm really embracing running as a soft escape. It's not about pace or performance, it's about presence. There's no pressure - just that feeling of switching off and losing track of time. In a world that's 'always on', those moments feel rare and powerful."

New Balance Ellipse Sneakers Enhance the Experience

To kickstart your running routine, New Balance has unveiled the new Ellipse shoe, their latest innovation in running footwear. Designed for both seasoned runners and beginners, these sneakers feature a bouncy underfoot feel and FreshFoam X cushioning, making daily runs more comfortable and enjoyable.

"At the moment I'm loving the New Balance Ellipse for these runs. The Fresh Foam X cushioning is so comfy, I hardly ever take them off after my runs," Smith adds. Available for purchase from March 3, the New Balance Ellipse sneakers retail for $240 and are ideal for all running levels.

Enrolments for the 'Run for Joy' challenge are currently open via the KIC app, with the program set to begin on Monday, March 9. This initiative offers a refreshing approach to fitness, prioritizing joy and mindfulness over traditional performance metrics.
