Perth Cavoodle Tooshie Achieves Major Milestone After Rare Condition Diagnosis

In an extraordinary update that has captivated animal lovers, Tooshie, a cavoodle puppy from Perth born without a bumhole, has successfully passed a normal-sized poo without any assistance. This milestone marks a significant step in his recovery from the extremely rare condition known as Atresia ani, diagnosed in June last year.

A Heartbreaking Discovery and Miraculous Survival

The journey began when Tooshie was surrendered by a backyard breeder to the Warwick Veterinary Hospital. Staff there made the heartbreaking discovery of his condition, which prevents normal bowel movements. Practice owner Kate Doyle expressed amazement at his survival, noting that he lived for five weeks with toxic waste fermenting inside him, a situation that could have led to internal rotting.

"It is extremely rare, just the fact that he survived for five weeks with toxic poo fermenting inside of him is a miracle — his insides could have rotted away," Ms Doyle said at the time. This initial period highlighted the severity of Tooshie's plight and set the stage for a challenging recovery process.

Emotional Update After 10-Month Struggle

Now, 10 months later, Ms Doyle has shared an emotional update on the Facebook page of her organisation, Moon's Mission. She announced that Tooshie has passed a dog poo of regular size and consistency entirely on his own, describing it as a moment she had been eagerly awaiting.

"Tooshie's done it… he's done it!! He just done a poo. A proper, normal, dog-sized poo. On his own. No help," the post began. Ms Doyle reflected on the difficult journey, stating, "This 10 month journey has been one of the hardest things I've ever been through. So many ups… but a lot of downs. But this right here, this is the moment I've been waiting for."

Accompanying the caption was a clip showing a grown-up Tooshie, sporting a cone and standing proudly next to the evidence of his achievement. The post emphasized his fighting spirit, with Ms Doyle adding, "This little dog is a fighter. He's been an inspiration to so many and I know that because so many of you have told me he is."

Global Support and Gratitude

The update has garnered widespread attention, with hundreds of messages pouring in from people around the world checking on Tooshie's progress. Ms Doyle expressed her joy, saying, "I've honestly never been happier to see a poo in my life." She also addressed critics and thanked supporters, highlighting the community's role in his recovery.

"To all the trolls and people who said euthanise him," she wrote, "To everyone who has supported his poop journey, donated towards him and sent me messages of support. Thank you will never be enough!! You've all played a massive part in this little dog's life."

This story underscores the resilience of animals and the dedication of veterinary professionals, offering hope and inspiration to pet owners facing similar challenges.
