How to Identify a Drug Lab

Clandestine labs, often referred to as "clan" labs, can be established in various locations, including factories, homes, rural properties, backyard sheds, apartments, hotel rooms, caravans, and tents. According to ACT Policing's website, common indicators include persistent chemical odours and the presence of pool-cleaning equipment at a property without a swimming pool.

Other signs of illegal drug manufacturing may include toxic waste and chemical containers stored on-site or dumped nearby. Additionally, extensive security systems, blacked-out windows, excessive hoses and pipes running through windows, and visitors coming and going at odd hours can all point to suspicious activity.

Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any such signs to help combat illicit operations in the community. This discovery highlights the ongoing efforts by emergency services and police to address drug-related crimes in Canberra.
