Newcastle Knights centre Bradman Best has expressed his willingness to change positions if it means securing a spot in the New South Wales State of Origin team. The 22-year-old, who has been a standout performer for the Knights in the NRL, acknowledged the fierce competition for backline positions in the Blues squad.
Best, who primarily plays as a centre, stated that he would be open to moving to the wing or even the fullback role if required. "I'm happy to play anywhere in the backline," Best said. "Whatever gives me the best chance to pull on that blue jersey, I'm all for it."
The talented youngster has been in impressive form this season, averaging over 150 running metres per game and crossing the try line on multiple occasions. His performances have not gone unnoticed, with NSW selectors reportedly keeping a close eye on his development.
Origin Aspirations
Best admitted that representing NSW at Origin level is a major goal for him. "It's something I've dreamed about since I was a kid," he said. "To play against the best players in the world and represent your state is the ultimate achievement in rugby league."
However, he acknowledged the depth of talent in the NSW backline, with established stars like Latrell Mitchell, Tom Trbojevic, and Josh Addo-Carr holding down positions. "There are so many great players in the mix," Best said. "I know I have to keep working hard and performing consistently to put my hand up."
Flexibility a Key Asset
Knights coach Adam O'Brien praised Best's attitude and versatility. "Bradman is a quality player who is willing to do whatever it takes to succeed," O'Brien said. "His ability to play multiple positions makes him a valuable asset for both the Knights and potentially NSW."
Best's willingness to adapt could work in his favour, especially with injuries often impacting Origin sides. His strong defensive capabilities and powerful running game make him a formidable option on the wing or in the centres.
The next Origin series is still several months away, but Best is already focused on impressing selectors. "I'll keep doing my job for the Knights and see what happens," he said. "If the opportunity comes, I'll be ready."
