Celebrating Canberra's Kindergarten Students in 2026: Big Steps, Little Feet
Celebrating Canberra's Kindergarten Students in 2026

They may be the smallest students on the playground, but hundreds of ACT kindergarten students have taken big steps into their first year of primary school.

From family discussions about school choice to the excitement and anticipation of transition days, it is a year filled with new emotions and huge learning progress.

From watery goodbyes on the first day to confident steps into the classroom a few months later, students have made big progress.

The key skills these students learn will set them up for success over the following 12 years of schooling. Not only in the fundamentals of literacy and numeracy but also in social skills, finding lifelong friends and becoming members of their wider school community.

The Canberra Times celebrates this important year with the inaugural Big Steps, Little Feet feature. Remembering the kindergarten students in 2026 as they take big steps towards the class of 2038.
