A former teacher has appeared in court denying allegations that he sexually and indecently assaulted multiple boys in the 1980s. The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faced Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday where he pleaded not guilty to 12 charges, including indecent assault and sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 16.
Allegations Span Several Years
The alleged offences are said to have occurred between 1982 and 1987 while the accused was a teacher at a school in the Newcastle region. The victims, all male students, were reportedly aged between 12 and 15 at the time of the alleged incidents.
Police allege that the teacher used his position of authority to groom and abuse the boys, engaging in inappropriate touching and other sexual acts. The court heard that the accused would often single out vulnerable students, offering them extra attention and gifts before the alleged assaults took place.
