A dramatic rescue operation was launched in Sydney's north-west on Friday afternoon after two teenagers fell down a steep 10-metre cliff at Berowra Valley National Park in Cherrybrook.
Critical Injuries and Emergency Response
A 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl were involved in the frightening incident, which prompted a swift and coordinated emergency response. The 17-year-old boy suffered critical injuries in the fall, requiring immediate medical attention.
To stabilise his condition, a specialised medical team was airlifted to the remote scene by the TOLL helicopter. Once he is safely carried to the top of the cliff, he will be transported to Westmead Hospital for further treatment.
Rescue Efforts and Additional Casualties
The 16-year-old girl was treated at the scene by paramedics for her injuries. She was then carried by foot to the top of the cliff before being taken to Royal North Shore Hospital. Authorities have reported that she is in a stable condition.
In addition to the teenagers, a 47-year-old woman was treated for shock following the traumatic event. The rescue operation saw a collaborative effort from multiple emergency services.
Police, paramedics, and members of the Rural Fire Service all attended the scene to assist with the complex rescue. Their combined expertise was crucial in managing the challenging terrain and ensuring the safety of all involved.
