Perth Weather: Heatwave Conditions Expected as Temperatures Climb This Week

Perth residents can expect a gradual warm-up throughout the week ahead, following a brief respite from the heat over the Australia Day weekend. A weak cold front that moved through on Sunday brought cooler conditions, but meteorologists forecast a significant temperature increase in the coming days.

Meteorologist Insights on the Warming Trend

Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Jessica Lingard explained that a cool pool of air lingered over Perth on Monday after the front's passage. "This week we're seeing another one of those west coast troughs develop which made Monday feel a little colder than what we have been used to," Ms Lingard stated. She emphasised that temperatures will rise steadily as the week progresses.

Heatwave Warnings Issued for Multiple Regions

A low-intensity heatwave is forecast to form from Friday, primarily affecting Perth's northern metropolitan areas. This weather pattern is expected to extend up the coast into the Mid West and Gascoyne regions over the weekend. The Mid-West region, in particular, faces a severe heatwave warning later this week, with conditions predicted to reach the mid-40s under sunny skies.

While parts of the Mid West may escalate to a severe heatwave during this period, Perth metropolitan areas are likely to experience a low-intensity heatwave. This follows a cooler Australia Day across Western Australia, where temperatures ranged from a low of 17°C to a high of 22°C.

Recent Weather Events and Regional Variations

Heavy rainfall and flash flooding were reported in the southern Kimberley and North Interior late on Monday night. On Australia Day, coastal areas benefited from a refreshing sea breeze, while inland suburbs recorded slightly warmer temperatures throughout the state.
