A woman suspected of involvement in a bombing in Monaco has been shot dead in Kyiv, Ukrainian authorities have confirmed.
Shooting in Kyiv
The suspect, identified as 34-year-old French national Marie Dupont, was killed in a shootout with police in the Ukrainian capital on Tuesday. According to a statement from the Kyiv police department, officers were conducting a raid on an apartment believed to be linked to a series of attacks when Dupont opened fire.
"During the operation, the suspect resisted and fired at law enforcement officers. In response, officers returned fire, resulting in the neutralization of the woman," the statement said. No officers were injured in the exchange.
Link to Monaco Bombing
Dupont was wanted in connection with a bombing that occurred in Monaco on June 15, which killed two people and injured several others. The explosion targeted a luxury hotel in the city-state. French and Monégasque authorities had issued an international arrest warrant for her.
"We have been working closely with international partners to track down those responsible for this heinous act," said French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin in a press conference. "This development in Kyiv is a significant step in our investigation."
Ongoing Investigation
Ukrainian officials are cooperating with French authorities to determine if Dupont was part of a larger network. Police have seized documents and electronic devices from the apartment for analysis. The investigation is ongoing, with officials urging anyone with information to come forward.
