Conservative Media Pioneer Jeff Webb Dies Following Pickleball Accident
Jeff Webb, a senior editor and publisher at the conservative news outlet Human Events, has died after suffering a traumatic brain injury from a fall while playing pickleball. The 76-year-old right-wing political activist was removed from life support approximately two weeks after the accident, according to reports.
Mentor to Late Commentator Charlie Kirk
Webb was a close friend and mentor to Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA who was assassinated at an event at Utah Valley University on September 10. Following Kirk's death, Webb told Real American's Voice that "we may have lost a future president," praising Kirk's charisma, faith, and respect for everyone.
"Charlie Kirk had it all, charisma, faith, respect for everyone," Webb said. "Now, in his absence, tens of thousands of new Turning Point USA chapters are rising. His legacy is just the beginning."
Tributes from Conservative Circles
Turning Point USA shared a nearly 10-minute video honoring Webb, describing him as a "dear friend to Turning Point USA and Charlie. He will be greatly missed." The organization noted that Webb was "a visionary who helped shape generations of young leaders and believed deeply in the power of community and country."
Earlier Career in Cheerleading
Before his involvement in politics, Webb played a significant role in the development of professional cheerleading in the United States. In 1974, he founded the Universal Cheerleaders Association, which later expanded to become Varsity Spirit and Varsity Brands.
Varsity Brands told Cheer Daily: "Jeff played a pivotal role in shaping cheerleading as it exists today and in building a community that has impacted generations of athletes, coaches and teams. We extend our condolences to Jeff's family and loved ones, and to the many across the spirit community who were influenced by his work."
Olympic Recognition Efforts
The company also credited Webb's work as president of the International Cheer Union for helping cheerleading gain recognition from the International Olympic Committee in 2021, marking a major milestone for the sport.
Webb's death marks the loss of a influential figure in both conservative media and the cheerleading community, leaving behind a legacy that spans multiple generations and fields.
