Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden have welcomed their third child, revealing the meaning behind his unique name. The actress and musician shared the surprise announcement on Instagram, saying they felt “blessed” to welcome their son.
“Cameron and I are happy, excited and feeling so BLESSED to announce the birth of our third child, Nautas Madden,” Madden, 47, posted. “Welcome to the world son!! We love life with our family — our kids are healthy & happy, and we are grateful!!! Having a blast. Sending all our best wishes — the Madden Family.”
Diaz, 53, who stepped away from Hollywood for 11 years before recently returning to the spotlight, responded in the comments with a string of love heart emojis. The couple are already parents to Raddix Wildflower Madden, six, and Cardinal Madden, two.
Alongside the announcement, the Good Charlotte guitarist shared a carousel of images, including a photo of a ship and an explanation of the name. It states the name originates from the Latin word Nauta, meaning sailor, navigator, voyager — one who embarks on a journey and fears not the unknown.
Subsequent slides featured symbolic artwork, from a cardinal to a plant, before ending on another playing card. Madden and Diaz, who got married in 2015, had not previously announced they were expecting. Known for being fiercely private, the couple do not share images of their children online or discuss them in interviews, and no further details about the birth were revealed.
However, the Charlie’s Angels star has previously spoken about becoming a mother later in life. In a 2022 episode of Naomi Campbell’s YouTube series No Filter, Diaz opened up about what it was like to become a mum in her 40s, shortly after welcoming her first child.
“A lot of people do it the other way around… they get married [and] have a family in their youth,” Diaz said at the time. “I’m kind of doing it in the second half of my life. Having a family when you’re young… it’s like anything when you’re young: You do it. But when you’re my age and you decide to do it, it’s a real choice. You really have to work hard for it.”
